Swimmer makes big splash in season finale

San Juan Island Fitness Club Swim Team was host to the Anacortes Thunderbirds at the club’s pool in Friday Harbor on Saturday, Feb. 22.

Nearly 60 swimmers participated in the one-day event. The Friday Harbor swim club is known as the Orcas and their season started in November with the end culminating in this meet. Several swimmers deserve special recognition for their performance.

Elian Bayas swimming in the OPEN category won the 100-yard freestyle, 50-yard butterfly and 50-yard freestyle. Maxine Early placed top in the girls eight and under in 50-yard backstroke, 50-yard breaststroke and 50-yard freestyle. Josephine Lane was the best in the girls’ 11-12 years old 50-yard. backstroke and 50-yard breaststroke. Olsen Schoultz was first in the boys eight years and under 50-yard breaststroke, and 50-yard freestyle. Lexi Champlin won the 50-yard butterfly in the girls’ 11-12 years old group. Cole Curtis took first in the boys 11-12 years old 50-yard freestyle and Timmy Mountford won the boys 13 and over 50-yard backstroke.

Coach Tim Collins and Carlene Balcomb-Bartok were pleased with the swimmer’s results and especially want to thank the club and the parents for all the hard work running the meet.
