Hit-A-Thon benefits youth sports program

The Friday Harbor Baseball & Softball Association Hit-A-Thon is Friday, 5:30 p.m. at the Friday Harbor Elementary School Baseball Fields.

This third annual fundraiser will benefit more than 250 children ages 5-15 and provide an evening of entertainment for the whole family. The concession stand will be open for dinner and snacks. A speed gun and dunk tank will be open to test your throwing arm.

Players have garnered pledges from friends and family and will combine the distance from their longest throw and hit, and multiply it by their pledge per foot to see who can raise the most money for the event. With announcers to call out who’s up next, the evening moves quickly as boys and girls — from T-ball through junior baseball and major softball — show their talent.

Funds raised from concessions, pledges and the speed gun and dunk tank are added to the general fund and some is set aside for a new batting cage at the fields. Over the last two years, more than $17,000 has been raised at this event.
