Snow named All-Region, All-League; nine other Wolverines receive All-League honors | Soccer

Friday Harbor goalkeeper Hannah Snow was named an All-Region award winner by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America for her contributions on and off the field over the course of the 2009 season. The NSCAA award program is designed to recognize excellence in soccer, academics and service to the game by collegiate, high school and youth players across the nation. Each year, the NSCAA recognizes as many as 10,000 players at all levels for their contributions to the game of soccer.

Friday Harbor goalkeeper Hannah Snow was named an All-Region award winner by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America for her contributions on and off the field over the course of the 2009 season.

The NSCAA award program is designed to recognize excellence in soccer, academics and service to the game by collegiate, high school and youth players across the nation. Each year, the NSCAA recognizes as many as 10,000 players at all levels for their contributions to the game of soccer.

Snow, a senior, will be among the many athletes receiving post-season honors at the annual fall sports awards, Dec. 3 at Friday Harbor High School.

Among the honorees will be 10 Wolverines named to All-League soccer teams.

First Team
— Elle Guard, striker.
— Larissa Nash, stopper.
— Hannah Snow, keeper.
— Hannah Starr, midfield.

Second Team
— Maggie Andersen, sweeper.
— Alex Freeman, midfield.
— Emma Ytander, striker.

Honorable Mention
— Lola Elford, midfield.
— Megan Goudie, defender.
— Alex MacDonald, midfield.

While post-season awards are nothing new for Snow — a first-team All-League selection the past two seasons — bringing home a NSCAA regional award breaks new ground for the Friday Harbor soccer program.

Snow joins Stephanie Zamudio of Cashmere as a NSCAA regional selection. Zamudio was named Washington Player of the Year by the NSCAA, as well as an All-America honoree.

Snow, the anchor of a sturdy and stingy defensive unit the past two years, helped lead the Wolverines to their second-straight Northwest 1A/2B League championship and, along with second-string goalie Rhianna Franklin, set a new standard for the program by posting a team-record eight shutouts this season.

The Wolverines finished the season with a 12-6 win-loss record overall. For the second consecutive year, they finished one win away from clinching a first-ever berth in the Tri-District playoffs.
