San Juan won three games and narrowly lost its fourth to finish second in a pre-season jamboree March 13-14 at Whatcom Community College in Bellingham.

The Dragons’ eight freshmen got a workout and contributed to a 6-1 win over Skagit Valley and an 8-1 win over Roosevelt on March 13. The Dragons defeated Skagit Valley again, 9-1, on March 14 to face Division I Overlake in the final.

Overlake was bumped up to Division I this year after winning the 2009 Division II championship.

The Dragons were down 5-3 with five minutes left when attackman Forest Dayton scored to narrow the gap. In the last seconds of the game, Overlake’s goalie made an amazing save to thwart another Dayton score and seal the win.
