Friday Harbor High School capped off its 2025 track and field season at the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association 2B State Championships, held May 29-31 at Eisenhower High School.
The Wolverines were well represented by a balanced roster of sprinters, jumpers, middle-distance runners, relay teams and Unified athletes.
In the boys’ events, Isidro Churape and Lewis Haws competed in the Unified Division 100-meter dash, while Channing Kleine ran in the 200-meter dash. The 4×100-meter relay team featured Malachi Cullen, Emilio Bayas, Channing Kleine and Pierce Kleine, with Eli Lane, Duncan Bogart, Ben Baisch and Isidro Churape serving as alternates. The 4×400-meter relay included Bayas, Cullen, Jasper Mahn, and Channing Kleine, with Neil Gresseth, Milo Martin, Pierce Kleine, and Nick Taylor as alternates. In the field, Myles Posenjak and Lewis Haws competed in the Unified Division shot put.
On the girls’ side, Stella Carli raced in the 400 meters, Ayla Weese-Burkhard ran the 800 and Flora Compton competed in the 3,200. The 4×200-meter relay team included Weese-Burkhard, Carli, Georgia VanderYacht and Charley Lawrence-Sampson, with Elena Swanson, Compton and Chelsi Pitman as alternates. The 4×400-meter relay squad featured Weese-Burkhard, Carli, Lawrence-Sampson and VanderYacht, with Compton and Pitman listed as alternates.
The Friday Harbor girls team finished 15th out of 38 schools in the overall team standings, earning 17 points. Carli placed fourth in the 400-meter dash. The 4×200 relay team of Weese-Burkhard, Carli, VanderYacht, Lawrence-Sampson, Swanson, Compton and Juliana Orozco earned fifth place. In the 4×400 relay, the team of Weese-Burkhard, Carli, Lawrence-Sampson, VanderYacht, Compton and Orozco claimed second place, closing out a strong showing for the Wolverines.
