San Juan Island’s Roger Paul successfully fended off the tenacious, spirited play of Daniel Farber of Anacortes to claim first place in the top division of the 3rd Annual Island Rec Table Tennis Tournament.

Paul bested the field two years ago to take the ‘Table 1’ title in 2012 as well, the tournament’s inaugural year. The 2014 tournament, held March 16 in Turnbull Gym, marked an uptick in participation, with a total of 17 players competing in four competitive divisions, several of whom, like Farber, came from off-island.

Top finishers in the other tournament divisions: Table 2, John Entermann of Anacortes, Table 3, Friday Harbor’s Tony Fyrqvist and Table 4, Jock Warren.

Tournament prizes were provided by Pablitos, Mi Casita, Van Go’s Pizza and the Golden Triangle restaurant.
