Lots of rust, lots of pent-up energy.

That’s how San Juan Coach Rob Cuomo described the Skagit Conference lacrosse opener Saturday in Friday Harbor, where the San Juan Dragons suffered disappointment at the hands of Mukilteo 12-3.

Senior attack Isaac Taylor, who made the WHSBLA’s Top 50 in points and points per game last season, was out with an ankle sprain sustained playing indoor lacrosse. He is expected to be back March 18 for the game against Lynnwood.

“San Juan had difficulty with their transition game, resulting in too much pressure on our long poles,” Cuomo reported. “Mukilteo played hard and came away with a hard-fought victory. We wish them well in the upcoming season.”

Next: The Dragons hope to shake off the loss for a March 18 game vs. Lynnwood at Shoreline Soccer Fields. Game time is 4 p.m. The Dragons host North County March 21, 2 p.m.; and Skagit Valley March 24, 5 p.m.

Notebook: Here’s what WHSBLA reports about San Juan in its online season preview: “With senior Isaac Taylor at attack, junior Forest Dayton at midfield, and junior goalie Calen Mehrer leading the defense, San Juan has the potential to make strides towards being one of the elite teams in Division II.” … Junior midfielder Forest Dayton was named to the WSHBLA Division II Preseason All-State third team. Last season, he was 16th in points (30), 16th in points per game (3) and 17th in goals (22) in the WHSBLA. “If you’re playing against San Juan, you have to know where Forest is,” Coach Rob Cuomo said.
