Hebert makes the cut, clinches berth at state 2B championship | Prep golf

The Friday Harbor High School junior put an end to a five-year drought by becoming the first player on the men's team to qualify for a state championship since Tyler McKee, in 2010.

Friday Harbor junior Keegan Hebert is state tournament bound.

Hebert shot 101 over 18 holes to finish in eighth place at the Bi-district tournament hosted by Whidbey Island’s Gallery Golf Club Thursday, May 21, good enough to clinch a berth in the 2B state golf championship.

Hebert was one of 20 golfers competing for nine state tournament berths allotted to the bi-district region. Teammates Cole Thomas and Jesse Kolowitz just missed the championship cut, finishing 11th and 12th, respectively.

Hebert’s upcoming state championship appearance will be the first for the Friday Harbor men’s team since Tyler McKee qualified for the Division 1A state tournament in 2010.

Hosted Columbia Point Golf Club in Richland, the 2B state championship, a two-day event, gets under way May 27.
