Friday Harbor finished fourth in the Cascadia Cup Sail Sand Point competition, Oct. 16 at Lake Washington.

Thirteen high school and college teams hit Lake Washington under clear, sunny skies and temps in the upper 50s.

The first race in A Division got started at 10:30 a.m. in a 3-knot northerly. The wind dropped to almost nothing during A Division’s second race, when a solid breeze filled the course as the fleet rounded the leeward mark.

The rest of the races were sailed in a 5- to 8-knot northeasterly that slowly shifted north all afternoon. All courses were twice around windward leewards with downwind finish.

Eight races were completed in each division by 4:30 p.m.

“A big thanks to Sail Sand Point for hosting the second annual Cascadia Cup,” Friday Harbor Coach Dez Bridgmon said.

“The goal of the event is to get high school and college sailors together to educate both about the great college and high school sailing happening right here in the Northwest … We hope this event can continue to grow.”

Teams from Western Washington University finished first and second. Bellingham High School finished third.
