Friday Harbor nabs big wins at league meet; Barnes, Johns, Short first in events | Track and Field

Friday Harbor’s Kelsey Barnes put the shot 31 feet 8 inches and threw the discus 89 feet 7.5 inches to win those events at the Northwest A/B League meet, April 1 in Friday Harbor. “This was great effort on their parts as they were competing against 17 different schools, of which two were 4A schools and nine were 2A schools. Kayla Short threw the javelin 109.7 feet to win that event. Her long jump measured 14 feet 6.5 inches, good enough for first.

Kia Johns placed first in the 100m hurdles with a time of 17.69.

Friday Harbor’s 4×200 relay team won first, posting a time of 1:57.96, outdistancing No. 2 Mount Vernon Christian by 4 seconds. Dasuni Gurusinghe, Kia Johns, Amanda Turnbull and Kayla Short comprised the winning 4×200 team.

Friday Harbor turned in several notable finishes.

— 100m: Gurusinghe, second, 13.65.
— 200m: Gurusinghe, second, 29.28.
— 300m hurdles: Turnbull, second, 53.65.
— Long jump: Johns, second, 13 feet 6 inches.
