Friday Harbor girls find success at Lopez meet | Track & Field

The girls team won its first meet of the season as Dasuni Guringhe took first place in the 100 (13.39) and 200 (27.99) meter dashes, while Fei Cooper took first in the 800m, Kelsey Barnes earned a first-place finish in the shot putt, and senior Kayla Short took first in both the javelin and the long jump.

The Friday Harbor track team had a successful meet on April 23 at Lopez School.

And Coach Darrin Scheffer was more than pleased with the result.

“The girls won their first meet of the year, actually the first meet in the last three years that I have been involved,” Scheffer said.

Dasuni Guringhe took first place in the 100 (13.39) and 200 (27.99) meter dashes. Fei Cooper took first in the 800m, Kelsey Barnes a first in the shot, and Kayla Short took first in both the javelin and the long jump.

Kia Johns took second place in the 100m hurdles and also in the long jump. Jadyn Slack competed in her first meet and scored a second place finish in the javelin and a third place finish in the 200m. Johns scored points for third place finishes in the high jump and in 300m hurdles.

“It was a great meet for the girls,” Scheffer said.

The boys team was not without achievements, too.

Junior Wilson Schubert scored a second place finish in the 800m run and a third in the 300m hurdles. Tyler Pruit trimmed down his time in the 110m hurdles and finished third in this meet with a time of 18.19. Lucas Jagel gave the triple jump a try and ended up scoring a third place finish.
