Friday Harbor cashes in on early lead in win at Meridian | Girls basketball

Friday Harbor outscored the Trojans (1-11) by seven in the opening half, 21-14, and traded buckets after the break to seal the victory.

The Friday Harbor girls basketball team jumped on the Trojans early and held on down the stretch to claim a 40-33 victory on the road, Tuesday, at Meridian, notching its third win of the season and second over a Division 1A rival.

Junior Tabatha Keane scored a game-high 16 points to lead the Wolverines on the offensive end, and senior Jean Melborne contributed 10.

Friday Harbor outscored the Trojans (1-11) by seven in the opening half, 21-14, and traded buckets after the break to seal the victory. With the win, the Wolverines improved to 3-9 overall, matched their highest-scoring output of the season and, along with a victory over Coupeville at home in mid-December, claimed their second win of the season against a regional 1A foe.

Bragging rights will be on the line when the Wolverines host the Vikings of Orcas Island, Friday, in the second showdown of the season between the inter-island rivals. The Vikings dealt Friday Harbor a decisive defeat, 44-25, at Orcas on Dec. 7, the second game of the season for the Wolverines.
