F.H.’s Root advances in singles tennis

Friday Harbor senior Amanda Root defeated Coupeville’s Ashley Sanders 6-1, 6-4 Saturday at Coupeville to advance to the bi-district tournament.

Friday Harbor senior Amanda Root defeated Coupeville’s Ashley Sanders 6-1, 6-4 Saturday at Coupeville to advance to the bi-district tournament.

The bi-district tournament is this Saturday at Bally’s in Federal Way. If Root places in the top two, she will advance to the state tournament.

Senior Kara Dunn lost to Sanders 6-3, 6-0, then defeated Jordan Akins 7-5, 6-2 to place third. Dunn is first alternate.

Freshman Jenny Dunn and sophomore Hannah Snow lost 2-6, 2-6 to finish as first alternates in doubles.

In boys tennis, senior Peter Duggins played in Coupeville Monday against District 2’s No. 4 singles player in a bid to qualify for the quad-district tournament. Results were unavailable at press time. Visit SanJuanJournal.com Sports.

If he won, he will join top-seeded singles player Josh Lehr, as well as No. 1 doubles Pablo Lopez and Zach Milkis, at quad-district Thursday and Friday at the University of Washington.
