Test your running prowess — and raise money for scholarships — in the 33rd annual Friday Harbor 8.8K Loop Run, Aug. 21.

Registration is $15 for children 12 and younger, and $20 for racers 13 and older. All fees include race entry, entry into the San Juan County Fair and an event T-shirt.

You can register online at www.islandrec.org or in person at Island Rec’s office, 580 Guard St., Monday through Friday, 1-5 p.m. Call 378-4953.

Check-in and day-of-event registration takes place in the Wells Fargo Bank parking lot, on the corner of Argyle Avenue and Spring Street from 7:30-8:45 a.m. The race starts promptly at 9:15 a.m. in front of Friday Harbor Drug and ends in the San Juan County Fairgrounds.

Awards follow the race at 11 a.m. This year’s race features a new timing system and a new age category: age 75-79.

Proceeds from this event benefit Island Rec’s youth scholarship program. In 2009, more than $20,000 in scholarships were provided to San Juan Island youth.
