Statement on the 2022 County Sheriff election results

I would first like to thank Sheriff Ron Krebs for the opportunity to work and live in San Juan County, for his service to our country in the U.S. Marines, and for his 16 years of service to San Juan County as a law enforcement officer. I am forever grateful for the opportunity to enrich our lives by living in the community my wife and I dreamed of living while visiting for many years. I wish Sheriff Krebs the best going forward and he will be welcomed for his valuable contributions to our community.

I am honored by the trust the voters of San Juan County have placed in me as our next Sheriff of San Juan County. I am also extremely thankful and grateful for the wonderful way our community has welcomed and embraced us since moving to San Juan County in 2017. There are many issues that must be addressed and many new ideas for community engagement and collaboration that I look forward getting started. I have selected a new command staff and I have already begun meeting with them to develop and enhance our strategic goals and a plan for implementing them as we enter the new year.

As we enter the new year, I will introduce the new Sheriff’s Office Command Staff to our fellow community members of San Juan County. These two individuals have a combined 62 years of law enforcement experience, have high character, and are committed to building relationships for a safer community. Our community and the employees of San Juan County S.O. will be in good hands with these individuals in place.

I would also like to express my heartfelt thanks and gratitude to everyone who assisted and supported this campaign, including volunteers, donors, first responders, retired law enforcement, and everyone who supported me publicly and privately. I was extremely encouraged to see such enthusiasm, engagement, and passion in this election.

When I decided to take on this campaign, I promised myself that I would just be me and continue to be genuine, authentic, high effort, and focus on positivity regardless of the outcome of the election. This will continue to be my mentality going forward and you will be hard-pressed to find someone more excited, enthusiastic, and passionate about serving our community than I am.

Thank you for the opportunity to serve you as our Sheriff and I am excited about our future.

Sheriff Elect, Eric Peter
