Wakeman Burr Henion | 1925-2020

It is our sad duty to inform you that Burr Henion passed away on the 2nd of April in Portland, Oregon

He is survived by his wife Dodie, his two sons Todd and Greg, and three grandchildren—all in the Portland area.

Burr and Dodie moved their two boys to San Juan Island in 1977, after many decades in the San Francisco Bay Area. After some years in construction, Burr became an innkeeper as he and Dodie opened “The Meadows”—one of the first Bed & Breakfasts on SJI.

Burr also built and operated a huge model railroad at the family home on Cattle Point Road. This layout formed the hub of community for many other modelers on the island, and these gatherings were the high-point of his week. His passion for detail and his love of America’s railroads fueled this life-long hobby.

In the early 2000’s, Dodie and Burr retired to Portland to be closer to their children, and subsequent grandchildren: Milo, Madeline, and Daphne. Burr continued to model and run trains, and built another layout for his grandson.

Burr and Dodie celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary last September.
