Robert Wesley Peterson

Robert Wesley Peterson of Friday Harbor passed away at home of a heart attack on Feb. 8, 2006. He was 76.

He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Nancy; sister, Audrey York; three devoted children: daughter Connie Shaw, sons Mark and Chris Peterson; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He was born July 29, 1929 in San Diego, Calif., and graduated from Ashland High School in 1947. He met his redheaded wife at the Fairmont Drive-In; they were married on March 10, 1951.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in Korea from December 1951 to September 1952.

After the Army, he worked for AT&T for 38 years. He supported the PTA and was a Little League umpire in San Diego. He was active in the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. He was commander of Post 3787 and presented more than 385 flags to Boy Scouts and various service organizations. He was a true patriot.

He retired and moved to paradise in 1989 and built his home on Turn Point, where he enjoyed boating and writing. He remained active through the American Legion, 4-H and the Masonic Lodge. He loved the islands and the people here.

The family thanks everyone for their kindness and loving support.

A memorial service will be held on March 4, 1 p.m, at the Masonic Lodge.
