Patty Thompson | 1935 – 2018

Patty left her earthly home in the early hours of Jan. 15, 2018, after battling Alzheimer’s for several years.

Patricia Dell Burres was born in Medford, Oregon, on Dec. 16, 1935. Her early years were spent in Oregon. In 1961, she married Jim Humphrey, eventually moving to Everett, Washington. She was widowed in 1972 and was left raising her five children when she met Dick Thompson at Trinity Episcopal Church. They married in 1975, moving to south Seattle; San Carlos, California; and Burien before retiring on Orcas Island in 1996.

Patty had a rich life with many passions. She was an excellent seamstress and knitter, an accomplished painter and a wonderful cook. She adored musical theater and the ballet. She served on the vestry of her church, was involved in Christian Education and met regularly with her Christian community for prayer. She had a fabulous sense of humor and was quick to laugh or relay a funny story.

Patty leaves behind her husband of 42 years, Dick Thompson; children Tom Humphrey (Roger), Theresa Humphrey, James Humphrey, Sean (Sue) Humphrey, Beth Humphrey (Veronica), Suzie (Jim) Barnes, Brad (Lisa) Thompson, Brian (Michele) Thompson, Tina (David) Haggith; 19 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; as well as her brother Keith (Glenda) Burres and two nephews. Anyone who knew Patty will know that she will be greatly missed.

A celebration of Patty’s life will be held on February 3, 2018, at 12 p.m., at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 242 Main St., Eastsound, on Orcas Island, with a reception following in the Parish Hall.
