Jonathan Varela Balise passed away at the UW Medical Center in Seattle on Wednesday, April 13, 2016, surrounded by his family and loved ones.

Jon was born in Seattle on Nov. 20, 1989, to Mardi and Michael Balise. The family soon moved to San Juan Island where Jon and his brother, Jamie, both attended and graduated from Spring Street International School. In 2012, Jon graduated from the University of Washington with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He continued to work for the University in the intellectual property office, UW CoMotion. Jon traveled extensively all his life and was most fond of his visits to Nepal, Thailand, and France. He is survived by his partner Christine Olshefsky; father Michael; stepmother Magda; brother Jamie; and sister-in-law Karena.
