James Kay Buterbaugh | Obituary

James Kay Buterbaugh born on July 9, 1934 of Santa Rosa, CA passed away at home surrounded by his loved ones on Dec. 26, 2018 at age 84. Jim is preceded in death by his parents Don and Pat Buterbaugh, who moved to Friday Harbor WA in 1973, and his wife of 53 years, Phyllis Y. Buterbaugh. He is survived by his sister, Donna Masters of Medina, NY, and three sons: Greg and Deborah Buterbaugh of Albuquerque, NM; their two daughters Morgan Buterbaugh and great grandson Aaron Roxby, Sarah Buterbaugh Rich and her husband Jason; Randy and Elizabeth Buterbaugh of Friday Harbor, WA; their three children: Shelby Buterbaugh, Kristina Isphording and Thomas Isphording; great grandsons: Jerid Isphording and Branndon Luckadue; Cary Buterbaugh, also of Friday Harbor, and his son Jordan of Chesapeake VA. Jim is also survived by a sister-in-law Pamela Elliott and her husband John Elliott of Rogers, AR, and many nieces and nephews. Jim graduated from Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology in Okmulgee, OK. He served honorably in the US Army from 1957-59 and worked over 35 years in the aerospace industry as a procurement analyst and contracts negotiator. Jim and his late wife Phyllis moved to Friday Harbor in 1993. Jim was loved by many, never met a stranger, and welcomed everyone around him with open arms. He was an avid historian and world traveler.

A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 2, 2019, at the Friday Harbor Presbyterian Church, followed by A Celebration of Life at the Mullis Senior Center.
