Howard Hartman

Howard Hartman was born Jan. 30, 1922 in Ellensburg, Wash., and died Feb. 13, 2011 in Lynden, Wash.

Howard proudly served in the U. S. Army in WWII. He married Doris Dufour and they lived in Seattle for many years, where they raised their family.

Howard loved baseball and for over 30 years enjoyed umpiring games from little league to semi-pro.

In 1972, the couple moved to Friday Harbor, Wash., where they lived for 33 years. They were very involved in the community and were proud members of the American Legion. Howard was honored for his involvement in baseball in Friday Harbor by having the baseball field named after him.

Howard was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Doris Dufour Hartman, and his sister, Dorothy Micheletto.

He is survived by his sister, Jo Cross; sons, Mark Hartman, Wayne (Joline) Hartman; daughter, Mary Kay Scott; grandchildren, Maleka (Orion) Morrison, Allison Hartman, Kyle (Amanda) Hartman, Andrew (Rachael) Hartman, Travis Hartman, Julia Hartman and Lesley (Timothy) Kalso; and great-grandchildren, Sarah Bray, Brady and Sean Morrison, Nicole Hartman, and Arianna Bilby.

A graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 19, 2011 at St. Francis Cemetery in Friday Harbor, Wash. Arrangements are in the care of Evans Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc., Anacortes, Wash., and the San Juan Islands.
