Eugene Alexander1928 – 2022

Friday Harbor resident Eugene Alexander, aged 93, passed away on Tuesday, March 29th at the PeaceHealth Peace Island Medical Center.

Eugene was born in 1928 in Staten Island, New York, and moved with his parents and two older brothers to Los Angeles in 1934. Eugene was drafted into the US Army and served in Korea during the Korean War.

Eugene and his wife of 63 years, Donna, raised their six children in the home that Eugene built in Woodland Hills (in the west San Fernando Valley section of Los Angeles).

Eugene worked the majority of his career for the Los Angeles Unified School District, where he helped keep hundreds of school facilities working and maintained. In his spare time Eugene enjoyed fine woodworking and amateur telescope making.

During a family vacation in 1973 he discovered the San Juan Islands, and called Friday Harbor home for the last 30 years.

Eugene is survived by Donna, his six children, and a dozen grandchildren.
