Donald Ragsdale | 1930-2020

Donald Wayne Ragsdale, 89, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2020, surrounded by loved ones.

Donald was born on Dec. 24, 1930 in the city of Baldwin Park, California. After graduating from high school, he joined the United States Navy and served for four years during the Korean War. In 1956, he married the love of his life, Joyce, in the Pasadena Chapel of Roses and they resided in Long Beach and Seal Beach, California. They enjoyed sixty-four years of marriage, raising daughter Susan and son Kevin.

Donald began and finished a career of 30 years as an engineer and supervisor with the Los Angeles County Flood Control District. After retiring he enjoyed playing tennis, gardening, and reading, but mostly entertaining their two grandsons, Connor and Ryder. In 1999, Donald and his wife, Joyce, relocated to the San Juan Islands in Washington. They enjoyed many activities and friendships in Friday Harbor and travel with family and friends.

Donald was predeceased by his wife Joyce and daughter Su. He is survived by his loving son Kevin; his daughter-in-law Nicole and son-in-law Dave Wing; his grandsons Connor and Ryder; and his sisters Bobbie Moon and Betty Lyles. He is also survived by his brother-in-law John Lackey and sister-in-law Marilyn Nasman, both of Friday Harbor.

Donald was a stoic man of few words, full of warmth and humor, who lived a life of loyalty and faithfulness.

A celebration of life will be held for both Donald and Joyce at a date to be announced.
