Arlene Silver

Arlene M. Silver

1920 — 2013

Arlene M. Silver of Friday Harbor, Wash., was peacefully called home to be with her Lord on Feb. 19, 2013. She had celebrated her 93rd birthday in January.

Arlene was born and raised in Kansas, where she met her future husband, Curtis Silver. She followed him to California and they were married in 1942. After her husband’s safe return from World War II, they settled in the Oakland Bay Area to raise their family and together built two houses, a successful business and were able to share 30 years of retirement together.

Arlene and Curt moved to San Juan Island in 2002 to be with their daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Wayne. Arlene enjoyed island living and felt blessed to have been able to spend her later years here. She often said going to town was like going to a party; she always met nice people and made new friends.

Even though her eyesight was failing from macular degeneration, with the help of a computer and a magnifying viewer, she wrote a book about her life experiences. From being born and raised on a farm to using a computer to write her book, she had quite a life, seeing and being a part of countless changes in her 93 years.

Above all, she loved and cherished her husband, children, family, friends and had a very strong and sincere faith in God. Her family has comfort in knowing she has been reunited with Curt and will now have everlasting peace with her Lord and Savior.

Arlene is survived by her daughter, Barbara; and grandsons, Stephen and Brian, and great-grandchildren, Audrey and Liam; her son, Bruce, and grandchildren, Jenny and Roger, and great-grandchildren, Curtis and Lacie; and a number of nieces and nephews who shared their love of family with her all through her years.

A funeral service will be held at Friday Harbor Presbyterian Church, Saturday, March 2, 2013 at 3:30 p.m., with a reception to follow at the church. Private family interment will be held at Valley Cemetery in Friday Harbor.

The family has requested that memorial gifts be made in her memory to FHPC Deacons Fund, P.O. Box 946, Friday Harbor, WA 98250. Arrangements are in the care of Evans Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Anacortes and the San Juan Islands.
