Upcoming blood drives in the islands

February was a tough month. With the snowstorm that hit the region, Bloodworks Northwest had to cancel many blood drives, and donors were unable to safely make it in, resulting in a loss of over 1,500 donations in the first few days of the storm. The snowstorm left Bloodworks Northwest with emergency levels for all blood types, and they are still working on recuperating from this loss.

With spring on the horizon, Bloodworks Northwest hopes you will consider giving blood at the spring blood drive. Apheresis appointments are available on San Juan Island and Orcas Island – this allows a donor to give a platelet-only or plasma-only donation. Call 1-800-398-7888 ext. 2 if you are interested in giving platelets, for more info.
