The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.

Dec. 16

• A deputy conducted a traffic stop near Eastsound. The driver was given a verbal warning for an expired registration and a citation for speeding, 45 mph in a 35 mph zone.

• A Lopez deputy was called by someone out-of-area for information about deer hunting.

• A Lopez deputy was sent to do a welfare check on behalf of Adult Protective Services. The subject was found at home safe, and the findings reported back to the agency.

• A deputy received information that a person near Eastsound was wanted on a felony warrant. The suspect was located, arrested on the warrant, transported to the San Juan County Jail and booked.

• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for traveling 35 mph in a posted 25 mph speed zone. The driver was arrested for driving with a suspended license – second degree and released with a citation.

• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for speeding. The driver was issued a citation for having an expired registration more than two months.

• Deputies were dispatched to a domestic disturbance in the Eastsound area. A person was subsequently taken into protective custody and transported to Peace Island Medical Center on San Juan Island for evaluation.

• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for traveling 35 mph in a posted 25 mph speed zone. The driver, who was warned for speeding the day before, received a citation for speeding.

• A Lopez deputy responded to related events of vandalism, trespassing and harassment. The matter is under investigation.

Dec. 17

• A deputy on Orcas impounded a vehicle from the ferry terminal. The vehicle was not in operating condition and had been abandoned for several weeks.

• A Lopez deputy investigated the theft of a county road sign. There are no suspects at this time.

• A person on San Juan was receiving threats of serious bodily harm. The suspect is out-of-state and the investigation is ongoing.

• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for traveling 45 mph in a posted 35 mph speed zone. The driver was issued a citation for speeding.

• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for traveling 46 mph in a posted 25 mph speed zone and for traveling left of the centerline. The driver was arrested for driving under the influence and issued multiple citations.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a report of an unwanted person. The involved parties were contacted, and the unwanted person was served with a trespass warning letter.

Dec. 18

• A deputy on San Juan stopped the driver of a vehicle for traveling 61 mph in a 45 mph speed zone. The driver was issued a speeding citation.

• A deputy on San Juan stopped another driver of a vehicle for traveling 65 mph in a 45 mph speed zone. That driver also was cited for speeding.

• San Juan deputies took a report of a cold hit-and-run collision. No suspect information was available.

• A Lopez deputy completed a report concerning unintentional damage to a vehicle.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a report of a death.

• An Orcas deputy responded to a hit-and-run traffic collision in Eastsound.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a hit-and-run complaint. The complainant was contacted and the deputy took a report.

• San Juan deputies responded to a report of an accident-injury. The driver was transported to the hospital for evaluation and was arrested for driving under the influence.

Dec. 19

• Deputies responded to a capsized vessel in Reeds Bay, Decatur Island. The boat was overturned by the windstorm while tied to a mooring buoy, unoccupied. The owner was identified and notified of the situation. The U.S. Coast Guard and the Washington Departmentof Ecology were advised. The owner is working on recovery.

• A deputy took a report of vandalism of Lopez.

• An Orcas deputy responded to a report of an elderly gentleman who had passed away.

• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for an expired registration. The driver was issued citations for an expired registration over two months and for not having insurance. The driver also received multiple warnings.

• A deputy on San Juan stopped the juvenile driver of a vehicle who was out past curfew. The case was forwarded to juvenile services for review.

Dec. 20

• San Juan deputies responded to a report of a collision. The driver was arrested and booked for driving under the influence.

• A deputy on San Juan stopped the driver of a vehicle for speeding. The driver was issued a citation for traveling 52 mph in a 35 mph speed zone.

• A deputy in Friday Harbor responded to a call about a hit-and-run accident. The deputy took photos of the damage and could find no evidence at the scene of the accident.

• A deputy on San Juan stopped the driver of a vehicle for speeding. The driver was issued a citation for driving 58 mph in a 45 mph speed zone.

• A deputy on Orcas was dispatched to a mail theft call near Map Corner. There are no suspects at this time.

Dec. 21

• A deputy on San Juan observed a driver with a suspended license operating a motor vehicle. The driver was arrested for driving with a suspended license – third degree. Charges of allowing an unauthorized person to drive will be forwarded to the prosecutor’s office on the owner of the vehicle.

Dec. 22

• A deputy responded to a citizen assist in Friday Harbor. The caller had questions about possible trespassers and options were discussed on how to handle trespassing issues.

• A deputy on San Juan located and arrested a male with four active warrants issued out of San Juan County District Court. The man was booked into jail awaiting a hearing.
