The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.

May 29

• A deputy on Orcas took a report of an assault. A report was taken.

• An Orcas Island deputy conducted a traffic stop for a driver who was speeding 41 mph in a posted 25 mph speed zone on Lovers Lane. The driver was subsequently issued an infraction for speed and given a warning for other infractions.

• San Juan deputies responded to a report of a drunk driver. Witnesses were attempting to keep the driver on scene, but he fled into a wooded area on foot prior to the deputies’ arrival. Deputies searched for the suspect for two hours but did not locate them.

• Lopez deputies responded to a domestic call. An individual was arrested for assault in the fourth degree, domestic violence.

• An Orcas Island deputy conducted a traffic stop for a driver who was speeding 40 mph in a posted 25 mph speed zone on Lovers Lane. The driver was subsequently issued an infraction for speed.

May 30

• A Lopez deputy responded to an animal problem call. An individual reported a dog bite that occurred over a week prior to the time it was reported. The incident is under investigation.

May 31

• An Orcas Island deputy along with Orcas Island Fire and Rescue responded to a vehicle collision. The driver was evaluated by emergency medical services for injuries and released. The deputy investigated the collision, and the driver was subsequently arrested for DUI and later booked into the San Juan County jail.

• A deputy on Orcas Island responded to a theft complaint. An investigation commenced and is ongoing.

• An Orcas Island deputy investigated a vehicle accident on Main Street. It was determined that the concerned party did not incur any damage to their vehicle. The suspected driver who was presumed to have hit the other car was a wanted fugitive. The fugitive was placed into custody.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of suspicious activity. An apparent human skull was located on a local beach and was entered into evidence to be examined.

• An Orcas Island deputy authored a report for a citizen assist call. The citizen was a suspect in a theft case who became aware that they were a suspect and wanted to call the Sheriff’s Office to explain their side of the story. The incident was documented and forwarded to the deputy in charge.

• An Orcas Island deputy responded to a noise complaint. The deputy investigated the claim and could hear the loud noise coming from the residence; the homeowner was warned of the county noise ordinance.

June 1

• An Orcas Island deputy along with Orcas Island Fire and Rescue responded to a vehicle collision near Olga. The driver and passenger were evaluated by emergency medical services for injuries and released. The deputy investigated the collision and the incident was documented.

• An Orcas Island deputy responded to a noise complaint. The deputy investigated the claim and patrolled the area; the complaint was unfounded. The deputy cleared the area and will follow up during the daytime.

• A Lopez man stole cigarettes from a grocery store. The man was permanently trespassed from the store.

• A deputy on San Juan Island took custody of a found wallet. The owner was not local to the state and was not able to be contacted. The wallet was submitted into evidence as found property.

• A Lopez Island deputy was dispatched to an unwanted person call. The involved parties were contacted, and it was determined to be a civil issue. The officer worked with the individuals to come to a solution for the issue. The incident was documented.

• A deputy on Orcas Island conducted a traffic stop. The driver was issued a notice of infraction for speeding, 39 mph in a 25 mph zone.

• A Lopez Island deputy was dispatched to a fraud callback. The incident was documented.

• A deputy on Orcas Island conducted a traffic stop. The driver was issued a notice of infraction for speeding, 42 mph in a 25 mph zone.

• A deputy on San Juan Island responded to a nonreportable non-injury accident in a parking lot. An exchange of information was completed after one driver left the scene.

• A Lopez Island deputy stopped a speeding vehicle on Mud Bay Road. The driver, a local woman, was subsequently issued a verbal warning for speed.

• Lopez Island deputies were dispatched to an unwanted person call. The individual was arrested for a domestic-related crime and transported to the San Juan County jail. The incident was documented.

June 2

• A subject is seen on a Ring Doorbell security camera. The individual has a valid trespass order signed by the property owner, which was served on May 5, 2024, for an indefinite period.

• The Sheriff’s Office took a report of vandalism. A county no-parking sign had been removed. Multiple vehicles were issued parking infractions and tagged for 72-hour tow notice if the owners do not remove their vehicles.

• A deputy on Orcas Island responded to a theft complaint. An investigation commenced and is ongoing.

• A deputy on San Juan Island responded to a report of a dog at large. It was reported that a dog got out and then chased cats. When the deputy arrived, the dog was back home. The owner admitted the dog was out by accident; the owner was issued a dog at large warning letter. A report was completed.

• A Lopez Island deputy stopped a speeding vehicle on Mud Bay Road. The driver, a local man, was subsequently issued an infraction for driving without a valid driver’s license and provided a verbal warning for speed.

June 3

• An Orcas Island deputy assisted a citizen with a civil matter. No crime was committed.

• A deputy received a trespassing complaint. The complainant signed trespass warning letters.

• A deputy on Orcas Island responded to a single-vehicle collision. The deputy authored a collision report.

• A deputy on Orcas Island was assigned a theft investigation. An investigation commenced and is ongoing.

• A deputy on Orcas Island received a trespassing complaint. A trespass warning letter was authored and signed.
