The Waldron Community Meeting will host a forum Saturday, 2-4 p.m., for candidates for County Council, District 4; and Superior Court judge.

The Waldron Community Meeting will provide transportation to and from the Waldron dock. Confirm at 360-317-8380, or call Waldron Freight at 360-317-8041.

Each candidate will have 5-10 minutes to present his or her position, followed by a question-and-answer session.

County Council District 4 includes Crane Island, Deer Harbor, Orcas, Waldron Island, and West Orcas Island. Council members serve four-year terms and receive $34,000 a year with benefits. Candidates are Jessica B. Bense, owner of a company specializing in biofeedback devices; Richard Fralick, former San Juan County freeholder; Mindy Kayl, former San Juan County freeholder; Alan Lichter, County Council member; and Bruce Orchid, who served on the former San Juan County Commission.

Superior Court judges serve four-year terms and are paid $148,832, half of which is paid by the state. Candidates are Randy Gaylord, San Juan County prosecuting attorney; and John Linde, a former District Court judge who was appointed to the Superior Court by Gov. Christine Gregoire last year when the position was created.

The primary election is Aug. 19. The general election is Nov. 4.

League hosts candidate forum Aug. 2 in F.H.

The League of Women Voters of the San Juan Islands is hosting a primary election candidate forum Aug. 2, 2:30-4:30 p.m., in Mullis Community Senior Center, 589 Nash St., Friday Harbor.

All candidates running for the following positions have been invited: U.S. House of Representatives, 2nd District; state Senate, 40th District; County Council, San Juan South; County Council, Orcas West; and San Juan County Superior Court Judge.
