San Juan man charged with burglary and assault

Omar Guillen, 19, of San Juan Island has been charged with two charges of burglary in the first degree — assault in San Juan County Superior Court.

Guillen’s arraignment was on Feb. 24 wherein he pleaded not guilty. The omnibus is scheduled for 9:30 a.m., March 30; readiness is 9:30 a.m., April 27; the pre-trial conference is 9:30 a.m., May 11; and the trial is 9 a.m., May 12.

A no-contact order has been issued for both victims.

On Feb. 13, a San Juan Island deputy responded to an assault in progress. While en route, he passed a black SUV, which dispatch said had left the scene. The deputy made contact with the driver, whose upper lip was bleeding. He said Guillen had punched him after he was discovered in bed with Guillen’s girlfriend.

The deputy then interviewed the female victim, who was being treated at the medical center. She said Guillen came into her residence without permission and “barged” into her bedroom. She said that when she attempted to break up the fight between Guillen and the boy, Guillen “came up behind her and grabbed her hair” and pulled her head into the wall. She said Guillen later slammed the male victim onto a night table, damaging it. Both victims are minors.

According to the probable cause determination, the deputy observed damage to the bedroom wall of a “circular imprint” from the victim’s head as well as a broken night table leg.
