June 29: An Orcas Island restaurant sustained $240 in damage after someone tossed a pen into the wash along with 80 napkins.
The owner of the restaurant said she suspects a disgruntled former employee, who she claims was fired the day before. The 44-year-old ex-employee, who insists he quit the job, denied the accusations when confronted by an officer.
• Erratic driving prompted the arrest of two San Juan Island men on alcohol-related charges following a traffic stop on Beaverton Valley Road shortly after 9 p.m.
The driver, a 19-year-old man, was charged with DUI. His passenger, a 22-year-old man, faces charges of supplying alcohol to a minor and of riding in a car with an open container of alcohol.
• Ten bottles of beer, ten bottles of hard lemonade and two bottles of wine disappeared from a boat moored at Orcas Island’s Deer Harbor Marina in an apparent theft. The stockpile of adult beverages is valued at $67.
July 2: A late-night traffic stop near the intersection of Spring and Second streets prompted the arrest of a San Juan Island man for DUI.
The 42-year-old was taken into custody at 10 p.m.
• A burned-out headlight led to the arrest of a San Juan Island man for DUI following a traffic stop near the intersection of Jensen Alley and Tucker Avenue.
The 18-year-old, charged also with possession of drug paraphernalia, was pulled over shortly before 9 p.m.
July 3: A 16-year-old Kenmore girl accused of stealing clothing from three Friday Harbor retailers was arrested on theft charges moments before she and her mother were about to board an Anacortes-bound ferry.
The teen, who was taken into custody at about 6:30 p.m., reportedly admitted swiping two tank tops, a pair of jeans and a black shirt from the shops.
• Excessive speed prompted the arrest of two Lopez Island teens on alcohol-related charges following a late-night traffic stop near the intersection of Mud Bay and Calle Agueta roads.
The driver, a 17-year-old boy, faces charges of DUI and being a minor in possession of alcohol. One of his passengers, an 18-year-old woman, was also charged with MIP.
• A warrant led to the arrest of a 16-year-old San Juan Island girl accused of violating court orders involving a prior arrest for possession of alcohol. She was taken into custody at a Beaverton Valley Road business park shortly before 7 p.m. and later escorted by local authorities to a juvenile detention center on the mainland.
• A 17-year-old Orcas Island boy was arrested on an alcohol-related charge and for theft and vehicle prowl following an interview at the sheriff’s substation on Mount Baker Road.

July 5: Four bottles of alcohol vanished from a San Juan Island residence in an apparent predawn theft on Bison Place.
The homeowner reportedly recalls seeing someone leaving the house when she woke up about 3:30 a.m., but dismissed the shadowy figure at that time as either imaginary or her husband roaming around.
July 6: A 26-year-old man faces a series of criminal charges following a late-night altercation with security guards at Roche Harbor Resort.
When asked to leave the deck by the resort lounge at about 2 a.m. the man reportedly refused and got into an altercation with two security guards during the standoff. He faces two counts of assault and one of disorderly conduct.
July 7: A 10-foot fishing boat disappeared from the shoreline near the public dock in Eastsound in an apparent theft.
The owner of the boat, a 40-year-old Orcas man, reportedly tied the boat to a tree near the dock in mid-June and discovered it missing a week later.
July 9: A pair of Whatcom County warrants prompted the arrest of a San Juan Island man who had been living in a tree house at a home on Point Caution Drive.
The 29-year-old, who was taken into custody at about noon, reportedly vowed to find someone to care for the two pit bulls he left in the tree house once he was booked and behind bars.
• An Orcas Island man was tracked down and issued a criminal traffic citation for disobeying a traffic flagger stationed near the intersection of Madrona and Market streets at about noon.
The 24-year-old, according to the flagger, was also driving erratically at the time.
• A 2 a.m. pit stop near the National Park interpretative center on Cattle Point Road led to the arrest of two San Juan Island men on alcohol-related charges.
The two were reportedly given a courtesy ride home after the 19-year-old was charged with being a minor in possession of alcohol, which his 25-year-old companion is charged with supplying.
• A Lopez Island woman reportedly received demands for money and accompanying death threats for ignoring the demand via her e-mail account.
Though potentially alarming, local authorities suspect the communique is part of a broader international and national new-age extortion scam.
• About 100 gallons of fuel vanished from the outdoor tank at Lopez Island’s Woodman’s Hall in an apparent theft.
The fuel, valued at $500, reportedly disappeared sometime over the past six months.
