Relay for Life Profile: Alice Gertrude Douglas Groseclose

Relay for Life — Friday, 5:30 p.m., to Saturday, 11 a.m., on the Friday Harbor High School football field — raises money for the American Cancer Society. To put a face on the fight against cancer and encourage participation in Relay for Life, families submitted to The Journal photos of loved ones who fought the battle. Alice Gertrude Douglas Groseclose

My Aunt Allie was born to John and Florence Guard Douglas on Sept. 22, 1926 in the midwife’s house on Spring Street in Friday Harbor. She died of cancer on Dec. 28, 1994 in Bellevue, Wash.

In between, she lived a joyous, adventurous and loving life, always an island girl at heart.
