The San Juan County Sheriff’s office responded to the following calls.

July 14

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a motorcycle wreck on Dolphin Bay Road. The rider had hit a deer and was flown off-island with injuries.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of a code violation regarding junk vehicles on a property. Photos were taken of the vehicles and code enforcement was notified.

• At the request of the U.S. Coast Guard, a Lopez deputy was sent to check on a report of a vessel dragging anchor in Hunter Bay. Vessels in the area, including another law enforcement agency vessel, were able to provide assistance.

• After their car was struck, a driver called a Lopez deputy who reported two boys throwing rocks at passing cars along Fisherman Bay Road.

• An Orcas deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle on Lovers Lane for a safety belt violation. The driver was issued a citation for failing to wear a safety belt.

• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for an expired registration. The driver had a suspended driver’s license and was issued a citation for not having insurance.

• A Lopez deputy was sent to investigate an open 911 call from a cell phone at Odlin Park. Neither the caller nor any indication of any emergency was found in the park or campground.

• A San Juan resident reported a road-rage incident to the sheriff’s office.

• A San Juan deputy took a report of a two-car, non-injury collision at the intersection of First Street and Court Street.

• A Lopez bicyclist complained to a deputy that a speeding driver nearly struck them on Fisherman Bay Road. There are no suspects but deputies are watching for the described vehicle.

• An Orcas deputy conducted an area check at the Westsound county dock and noticed a vessel that had been issued numerous citations for unlawful overnight moorage. The deputy issued the vessel’s owner a citation.

July 15

• A Lopez deputy responded to an alarm call but when they arrived they found the alarm was off and there were no signs of danger.

• A Lopez man was contacted for trespassing after he was caught building a trail across private property.

• A deputy on San Juan stopped the driver of a vehicle and issued them a citation for passing another vehicle over a solid double yellow line on Douglas Road.

• A San Juan deputy issued a driver a citation for speeding 56 mph in a 35 mph zone of Rouleau Road.

• A Lopez deputy responded to a vandalism call.

• A deputy on San Juan stopped and arrested a driver for driving with a suspended license, and issued them a citation for not having insurance.

• A deputy on San Juan impounded a vehicle pending a search warrant for narcotics after K-9 Sucia alerted them to the odor of narcotics from the vehicle.

• A Lopez deputy stopped and cited a driver for speeding 35 mph in a 25 mph zone.

• An Orcas deputy conducted a narcotics investigation at the intersection of Olga Road and Point Lawrence Road.

• San Juan deputies were advised of an incident of fraud. The reporting party had withdrawn funds placed into their account by a fraudulent party, then spent the money. The bank advised the reporting party that the funds were from bad checks and needed to be returned.

July 16

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of a washed-up shoe and life vest on a beach and entered the items into evidence. The U.S. Coast Guard was notified.

• A deputy on Orcas found that a suspect had lied to them on a prior case. A probable cause was written for making a false statement to a peace officer.

• An Orcas deputy took a report of property found at Ray’s Pharmacy. A wallet, credit cards and identification were located in the pharmacy and booked for safekeeping.

• The driver of a vehicle on Lopez was issued a citation for parking in a clearly posted No Parking zone on Fisherman Bay Road.

• A person reported two overdue paddle boarders on Fisherman Bay on Lopez. The involved juveniles were located a short time later.

• An Orcas deputy took a report of a lost 1968 Mirrocraft 12-foot aluminum boat. The boat was last seen by the owner over a month ago.

• An Orcas deputy took a found property report of a remote control car. The car was booked in the Orcas substation for safekeeping.

• A Lopez deputy contacted three individuals regarding suspicious activity in the area of 2400 Fisherman Bay Road. The individuals had unknowingly trespassed on county property, so the deputy gave them verbal warnings.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a reported sex offense. The incident was found to be unintentional. The offending person was issued a trespass notice.

• A deputy responded to a report of a burglary in progress in Friday Harbor. When the deputy arrived, no one was on the scene but the reporting party provided a license plate number. No crime was committed.

• A deputy on Orcas issued a ticket to a boater for violating San Juan County Code 10.28.010, Mooring at a Public Landing.

July 17

• Orcas deputies responded to the intersection of Terrill Beach Road and Mt. Baker Road and found a vehicle upside down in the pond at the intersection.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of vagrancy. The subject was trespassed from the private property.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of someone writing on a boat with a pen. There are no leads at this time and the incident was documented.

• A Lopez deputy was sent to check on an open 911 call and found no emergency at the location.

• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle and issued them a citation for traveling 64 mph in a posted 45 mph speed zone.

• A Lopez resident narrowly avoided striking youthful bicyclists running through the stop sign at a high rate of speed at the end of Airport Road. The cyclists reportedly were part of a larger group that was last seen heading towards the village on Fisherman Bay Road.

• A deputy on San Juan took a report regarding threats made toward someone. The incident was investigated and found that the threats did not meet the requirements for criminal charges.

A deputy on San Juan completed a court-ordered firearms surrender. The firearms were entered into evidence for safekeeping.

• A deputy on Orcas conducted a traffic stop and issued the driver a citation for speeding, 40 mph in a 25 mph zone.

• Another driver on Orcas was cited for speeding, 49 mph in a 35 mph zone.

• A San Juan deputy assisted with the impound of a vehicle for overtime parking on public roadways.

• A Lopez deputy responded to a call about a visiting family’s child that was bitten by a chihuahua. The injury was not fatal and a warning for having the dog off-leash was given.

• Orcas deputies were dispatched to Stuart Island on a complaint of threats. No arrests were made.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of an assault that occurred at a large party. An investigation revealed the suspect punched another person, causing injury. The suspect, who was booked into jail, was also noted to be under the influence of alcohol and marijuana and in possession of marijuana.

• Orcas deputies were dispatched with the U.S. Coast Guard to a report of paddle boarders in distress on the north side of Orcas. The paddle boarders were located with assistance from a land-based Orcas Fire and Rescue crew, and a helpful resident.

July 18

• A part-time Lopez resident reported a theft to deputies.

• An Orcas deputy spoke to a citizen regarding an alleged assault.

• A San Juan deputy stopped and cited the driver of a vehicle for traveling 38 mph in a posted 25 mph speed zone.

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a report that a dog attacked another dog and caused some injuries. The incident was investigated and documented.

• A deputy on Orcas conducted a traffic stop and issued the driver a citation for speeding, 49 mph in a 35 mph zone.

• Another speeding driver on Orcas was stopped and cited by deputies, this one for traveling 40 mph in a 20 mph zone.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a theft complaint.

• An Orcas deputy was dispatched to a report of illegal trash dumping. The investigation is ongoing.

• San Juan deputies received a report of fraud that involved a local business accepting fake currency. Since the business did not know who passed the money, there are currently no suspects.

July 19

• A Lopez deputy collected a dog that had been caught running at large. The dog owner picked up the dog that had escaped from a closed building surrounded by a fenced yard.

• A deputy on San Juan took possession of a lost U.S. passport and entered it into the evidence room.

• A Lopez deputy was sent to a report of a vehicle in the ditch, partially blocking the road near the ferry terminal. The car was gone when the deputy arrived.

• A deputy on Orcas conducted a traffic stop and cited the driver for speeding, 44 mph in a 25 mph zone.

• An Orcas deputy was dispatched to a safekeeping call and secured the items in the property room.

• A Lopez deputy stopped a motorist for speeding near the Lopez Village and cited them for speeding 38 mph in a posted 25 mph zone.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a missing person call. The person was located.

July 20

• A Lopez deputy checked on a 911 hang-up call and discovered the call was made inadvertently while trying to reboot the phone. Not recognizing the number when dispatchers tried to call back, they did not pick up.

• A San Juan deputy located and arrested a person wanted on a warrant and booked them into jail.

• Deputies on Lopez responded to a report of a collision on private property that happened five days prior. The reporting party is in Seattle and was vacationing here. Deputies advised and instructed the person on completing a report through the Washington State Police self-reporting system. However, the reporting party did not wish to pursue charges, saying, “Oh no. No charges at all,” when asked.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a report of a lost wallet near Eastsound. All credit cards have been deactivated.

• An Orcas deputy took a report of pornography and started an investigation.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of child abuse. A crime does not appear to have been committed and the incident was documented.

• An Orcas deputy responded to and investigated a report of a theft.

• An Orcas deputy was dispatched to a report of lost property.

• A San Juan deputy observed a subject wanted on a warrant walking in Friday Harbor. The person was arrested and transported to the San Juan County jail.

• A Lopez deputy stopped a motorist and issued them a citation for speeding in the 2200 block of Fisherman Bay Road.

• Another motorist on Lopez was stopped by deputies for failing to honor a stop sign at Hummel Lake Road and Fisherman Bay Road. The motorist also cut off another driver who was traveling north on Fisherman Bay Road. The deputy issued the motorist a ticket for failing to come to a complete stop at the sign.

• San Juan deputies, Fire and EMS were dispatched to a two-car injury collision. The injuries were determined to be relatively minor.

• San Juan deputies responded to a report of a domestic incident. The incident was verbal and one party was transported to a family member’s house for the night.

• San Juan deputy responded to a report of a citizen assist. No crime appeared to have been committed.
