Foreclosure proceedings on Friday Harbor Ace Hardware were postponed this morning until 10 a.m. Oct. 3. The legal proceedings surround the default foreclosure of the real property currently occupied by Friday Harbor Ace Hardware at the corner of Argyle and Web streets in Friday Harbor. The business was not on the auction block, but the property it sits on was scheduled to be and may be again in October.
On Sept. 3, Robert Nathan Benedict pleaded no contest in San Juan County Superior Court to one count of vehicular homicide, a Class A felony. Vehicular homicide carries maximum penalties of life in prison, a $50,000 fine, or both.

The end of camping on Matia and Turn islands is one of the options being considered in a conservation plan being developed for the San Juan Islands National Wildlife Refuge. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is developing a Comprehensive Conservation Plan for the national wildlife refuges on Protection Island — near Port Angeles — and in the San Juan Islands. The conservation plan will guide refuge management decisions for the next 15 years and beyond.
Sharon Blake’s life will be celebrated Wednesday, Sept. 3, 5 p.m., in the San Juan County Courthouse. Ms. Blake, 67, was a legal assistant in the courthouse. She fought cancer for a year; that battle ended last week after double pneumonia set in.
Through the tireless work of the PTA, funds were raised for the upgrade. However, while the toy itself is ready to go, some FHES parents have raised their concerns about the “crumb rubber” material which was chosen as underlayment to protect children when they jump or fall from the toy.
