    The days of dead zones and spotty cell phone coverage could be nearing the end. But it will take a massive overhaul in the way cell-phone towers, or wireless antennas, are regulated, reviewed and permitted in order to make that happen, according to members of a recently-created cell-phone task force.

    Willie Cavenaugh, a retired educator, one-time write-in candidate for San Juan County Commission, and proprietor of the fictitious Wild Willie’s Roadkill Mortuary, has died. Mr. Cavenaugh died Oct. 2 in his home on Lampard Road. He was one day shy of his 73rd birthday.

    Friday Harbor sales tax receipts are about $15,500 lower than in 2007, and hotel/motel tax receipts are about $10,000 lower than in 2007, according to a report from the Town Treasurer’s Office. But Town Treasurer Wendy Picinich said she expects the town will come out as budgeted: $950,000.
