OPALCO to offer free Wi-Fi at ferry landings for members with SmartHub account

OPALCO members signed up for SmarHub, the co-op's electronic billing system, can access Wi-Fi for free at ferry landings in the San Juans beginning May 5. Create a SmartHub account by going online (www.opalco.com) or by telephone, 376-3500, where a representative will assist.

Orcas Power and Light Cooperative members can log onto Wi-Fi for free at the inter-island ferry landings, beginning May 5.

Members can do so by using the user name and password of their SmartHub (eBill) account, a form of paperless billing offered by OPALCO. Create a SmartHub account by going online (www.opalco.com) or by telephone, 376-3500, where a representative will assist. For those with a SmartHub account, profile settings include a “Turn Off Printed Bills,” feature.

At the ferry landing, look for the OPALCOcares network in your Wi-Fi settings. When prompted, enter your SmartHub user name and password to complete your connection (some devices will require that you launch your browser to activate the connection). This is a secure network.

OPALCO is offering free Wi-Fi at the ferry landings as a countywide safety net in the wake of the CenturyLink outage last fall. The OPALCOcares network will be up and running during a planned countywide power outage the night of May 8. SmartHub account users will be able to get a Wi-Fi connection at their local ferry landing.
