Missing microscope, stolen sailboat, drone drive-bys | San Juan County Sheriff’s Log

The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.

July 1

• San Juan deputies were dispatched to a report of a single-vehicle, non-injury collision.

• A sailboat was reported stolen from Fisherman Bay on Lopez. The alleged suspect is known, as is the boat’s location. Due to underlying civil issues, the case was referred to the prosecutor for review.

• A deputy received a fraud complaint from a Lopez resident. The resident said she was notified by her employer that someone attempted to file an unemployment claim for state benefits in her name.

• San Juan deputies responded to a report of a domestic incident.

July 2

• San Juan deputies responded to a report of vandalism. At this time there is no information about a suspect.

• San Juan deputies received a report of unemployment fraud. The incident was investigated and a report was generated.

• A Lopez deputy responded to a dog bite incident. The dog was chained on the property; however, the bite victim did not call ahead as agreed upon.

• Deputies responded to a report of possible drone aircraft flying in Eastsound. The aircraft was purportedly flying over residential areas, which presents a privacy concern for citizens. The aircraft was gone when deputies arrived at the scene.

• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for having an expired registration. The driver was issued citations for not having a valid driver’s license with identification and for not having insurance. The driver was also given warnings for having an expired registration and for not having registration in the vehicle.

July 3

• Deputies were dispatched to a possible domestic incident in Eastsound. After an investigation was completed, it was determined no crime was committed.

• A deputy responded to a found property call regarding a lost cell phone. The owner was located and the property packaged to be mailed back to the owner.

• A deputy on Orcas took possession of a found cell phone at the public library. The phone was booked into the property room.

• A San Juan deputy responded to an agency assist.

• A deputy responded to a report of theft near Eastsound. There are no suspects at this time.

• Deputies responded to a possible domestic disturbance in Eastsound. The incident was a verbal argument and no crime occurred.

• Deputies investigated a report of a dog-at-large on Orcas. The dog was gone when deputies arrived.

• Deputies on Orcas responded to a collision with an injury. The driver sustained possible minor injuries and was arrested for driving with a suspended license in the second degree and for driving a vehicle that wasn’t equipped with a required ignition interlock.

July 4

• A deputy on San Juan was dispatched to the sheriff’s office to log a court-ordered check-in of a person.

• An Orcas deputy received a found cell phone which was booked into the lost and found, waiting to be reunited with its owner.

• A Lopez deputy completed a report regarding a COVID-related citizen dispute that occurred at Odlin Park.

• A deputy issued a driver a citation for speeding 71 mph in a 40 mph zone of Orcas Road.

• San Juan deputies responded to a report of a citizen dispute. The parties were separated and a report was made.

• Deputies responded to a report of a domestic dispute in Friday Harbor. The parties were contacted and a report was made.

• San Juan deputies responded to a report of a driver sleeping in a vehicle while parked in the roadway. The driver was arrested for driving under the influence.

July 5

• A deputy on San Juan was dispatched to the sheriff’s office to log a court-ordered check-in of a person.

• A San Juan deputy was contacted via phone about an order violation. The person said they had been contacted in violation of a court order.

• A Lopez deputy responded to a citizen dispute regarding property access. One party was encouraged to prove his claim by providing proper documentation.

• A deputy responded to a report of a domestic incident in the Eastsound area. It was determined that no crime had been committed.

July 6

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of vehicle theft. Upon investigation, other thefts were discovered. There are no suspects or leads at this time.

• A deputy was contacted about a vehicle prowl on San Juan. The caller said that a vehicle had been entered and a bike was moved around the property.

• On San Juan, a deputy responded to a report of a vehicle prowl. The caller said their vehicle had been moved around on the property.

• A deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle in Eastsound for having an expired registration. The driver received a warning for the registration violation and was issued a citation for not having insurance.

• A deputy received a call about a credit card fraud in Eastsound and filed a report.

• Deputies received a report of a person urinating on a trail in Eastsound. The subject was located and warned that they were in violation of code 9.26.070 – urinating in public.

• Deputies on San Juan arrested a person on a warrant and booked them into custody.

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of a theft. The incident was documented and there are no suspects or leads at this time.

• A driver on San Juan was given a warning for using their cell phone while driving.

• Deputies investigated a report of a missing telescope on Orcas Island. The case is inactive pending new information.

• A Lopez resident reported the theft of a key that was mailed to them.

• Deputies on Orcas responded to a domestic dispute. One person was taken into custody and charged with felony harassment.

July 7

• An Orcas deputy responded to a report of an assault. The reporting party said it had occurred the prior day at work. The investigation is ongoing.

• A Lopez deputy was called about suspicious email communications. It was determined that no crime was committed.

• After a deer on Lopez was struck by a car, a deputy was called to euthanize the animal.
