Midterm results

Voter turnout for the Aug. 2 midterm elections was low, only 30 percent of registered voters turned in their ballot as of 8 p.m., according to the Elections office report. That number, however, will increase as not all of the ballots had been counted.

Locally, the Lopez Island School District proposition 1, replacing a levy for educational funding, passed by over 70 percent of the vote, and David Turnoy was elected the Eastsound Democrat Precinct Committee Officer, for a two-year term, by over 67 percent of the vote. Amy Vira ran unopposed for San Juan County Prosecuting Attorney and received 100 percent of the vote.

In state races Steve Hobbs garnered the most votes for Secretary of State at 55 percent, Debra Lekanoff ran unopposed, and Alex Ramel received 82 percent of the county votes.
