Artist Marsha Rachlin died Dec. 8, 7:25 p.m. in a care center next to Skagit Valley Hospital in Mount Vernon. She was 72 and had been battling cancer. An obituary is forthcoming. A memorial celebration of her life will be held in February in the American Legion hall. In lieu of flowers, donations are preferred to the new Island Artisans Endowment Fund, which will fund scholarships for graduating high school seniors.

Rachlin was active in Island Artisans and the Visual Arts Museum of San Juan County, which is now the Islands Museum of Art.
