The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.

March 4

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of a traffic hazard. Upon arrival, the deputy

observed a vehicle that had left the roadway and struck a small tree. The driver was issued a citation for having the vehicle’s wheels off the road.

• A Lopez deputy was sent to investigate an unsecured residence. The house was cleared and found to be apparently undisturbed. A note was left for the owner, and the home was secured.

• A deputy on Orcas stopped the driver of a vehicle for a seat belt violation for which the driver was issued a citation.

• A deputy issued a driver citation for speeding in Eastsound.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of a theft.

• A deputy responded to a welfare check in the Olga area. The person was contacted and everything was fine.

• Deputies on San Juan investigated two possible violations of the uniform controlled substance act. Reports and probable-cause statements were completed and forwarded to the prosecutor’s office.

• A San Juan deputy arrested a driver for driving under the influence. The driver was later released with a citation and a citation for speed.

• A deputy cited a driver traveling on Mt. Baker Road for operating a vehicle without a valid license and issued a verbal warning for not having the vehicle registration in the vehicle and not having forward-facing red flashing lights.

March 5

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of a sexual assault. The investigation is ongoing.

• A deputy took a report of apparent fraud. The victim, who lives on Orcas, discovered fraudulent charges on her debit card through the Lyft app. An investigation is ongoing.

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of a traffic hazard. The incident was unfounded.

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of a hit-and-run. The suspect’s vehicle is known and the case is currently under investigation.

• A deputy on San Juan took a report of a trespassing and illegal dumping complaint. The suspect is known and will be contacted.

• A deputy in Friday Harbor responded to a report of an unwanted person. The parties

were contacted and the issue was resolved.

•A deputy issued a driver a citation for having an expired vehicle registration in Eastsound.

• A deputy on Orcas was dispatched to a report of an intoxicated driver in town. The vehicle was located and the driver was arrested for driving under the influence.

• A deputy on San Juan stopped the driver of a vehicle for speeding. The driver was issued a citation for speed 64 mph in a 45 mph speed zone.

• A Lopez deputy documented an ongoing civil dispute involving several people.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a noise complaint in the Rosario area. The deputy explained to the reporting party that it was in regulation until 10 p.m.

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of a parking problem. The vehicle was gone when the deputy arrived.

March 6

• A deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for negligent driving in Friday Harbor. The driver was issued a citation for 2nd-degree negligent driving.

• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for traveling 53 mph in a posted 35 mph speed zone. The driver was issued a citation for speeding.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of harassment and filed a report.

• A deputy on San Juan took a report of an all-terrain-vehicle being driven on public roadways. Since regulations in San Juan County prohibit ATVs (licensed or not) to be driven on public roadways, traffic enforcement will be conducted in the area.

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a dog in a vehicle, with the windows open partially. The outside temperature was 46 degrees at the time. The deputy was unable to locate the vehicle.

• A deputy on Orcas conducted a traffic stop. The driver was issued a citation for speeding, 53 miles per hour in a 35-mile-per-hour zone.

•A deputy was dispatched to a theft in Eastsound.

• A deputy in Friday Harbor took a report of a hit-and-run. There is no suspect vehicle at this time and the incident was documented for insurance purposes.

• Deputies on Orcas responded to a dispute. The involved parties were contacted and an investigation commenced. Two of the four involved parties involved in the dispute were issued trespass warnings.

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of custodial interference. The incident was unfounded.

• Deputies on San Juan were dispatched to a report of a possible assault.

• A deputy on San Juan took a report of a vehicle coming within “four inches” of another vehicle.

• Orcas deputies were dispatched to a welfare check near Eastsound. The person contacted the reporting party and everything was fine.

• A San Juan deputy issued a driver citations for second-degree negligent driving and not having proof of insurance.

• A deputy on Orcas took a report of stolen fuel.

• A deputy on Orcas conducted a traffic stop. The driver was issued a citation for speeding 58 miles per hour in a 35 mile per hour zone.

• A San Juan deputy arrested a driver for not having a valid operator’s license with ID. The driver was later released with a citation for the offense.

March 7

• A San Juan deputy responded to a domestic call.

• A deputy on Orcas conducted a traffic stop. The driver was issued warnings for speeding, for not having their license on their person and for failing to sign the vehicle registration. The driver was also issued a citation for not having proof of liability insurance.

• A deputy on San Juan took a report of a suspicious note left on a vehicle. It is unknown who left the note at this time.

An Orcas deputy responded to a report of a hit-and-run traffic collision in Eastsound. All parties were located and interviewed and a report was taken.

• Deputies on San Juan responded to a single-vehicle collision with a building. The driver was suspected to be driving under the influence and a warrant was issued to test the driver’s blood. The driver was issued a citation for having an open alcohol container in the vehicle and for driving with the car’s wheels off the roadway. The case is pending results.

• A deputy was dispatched to a citizen assist in Eastsound. Information was given to the reporting party about their options.

• A deputy on Lopez stopped a motorist on Lopez Road after he saw the driver run a stop sign. The deputy determined the driver’s registration expired in 2015. He issued the driver a ticket for failing to stop at the stop sign and for an expired vehicle registration.

• A deputy on Orcas conducted an area check near the ferry landing because of a report of a possibly abandoned vehicle. The owner of the vehicle was identified and the name was given to the property owner.

• A deputy on San Juan stopped the driver of a vehicle for an expired registration. The driver was issued a citation for having an expired vehicle registration for more than two months and a warning for not having their driver’s license with them.

March 8

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of a suspicious person. The subject was contacted and advised to stay off private property.

• Deputies on Orcas responded to a domestic dispute. The involved parties were contacted. It was determined no crime had occurred and an informational report was taken.

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of vagrancy. The subject was asked to leave the private property and did so without incident.

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of a bicycle theft. The bicycle was recovered a short distance away after being dumped in bushes.

• A deputy responded to a report of an order violation. The investigation found there was no law violation.

• Deputies on Orcas responded to multiple vehicles off the roadway near the top of Mt. Constitution. All vehicles were recovered safely and there were no injuries.

• A deputy on Orcas was involved in a single-vehicle collision which resulted in minor damage to the push bumper of a patrol vehicle.

• A deputy was dispatched to an agency assist in Eastsound. Everything was deemed to be okay and cleared without incident.

March 9

• A Lopez man was taken into custody when he failed to surrender, as ordered by the court, to begin serving a sentence. He was arrested without incident and transported to Friday Harbor on a new charge of bail jumping.

• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for having an expired registration on the trailer it was towing. The driver was issued a citation for having an expired registration of more than two months. A warning was also given.

• A deputy on San Juan took custody of a wanted person who was booked into jail on a felony warrant.

• Deputies on San Juan were dispatched to a report of an order violation. The suspect was contacted and arrested for violating an anti-harassment order, disorderly conduct and for being a minor in possession of alcohol.

• A deputy in Friday Harbor was dispatched to a report of harassment. The suspect was already in custody on other charges. The suspect was additionally arrested for unlawful imprisonment and 4th degree assault.

• An Orcas deputy was dispatched to conduct an area check at a local business. A person was discovered sleeping inside the business and subsequently arrested for trespassing.

March 10

• A deputy responded to a break-in at a non-residential building in Eastsound. It was discovered the suspect(s) kicked in the door to gain entry. The case is under investigation.

• Deputies conducted a welfare check in Friday Harbor. The involved person was located and indicated to the deputies that he was doing well.

• A deputy responded to a report of found property. An owner was not able to be located and the property was placed in the property and evidence room per policy.

• A deputy responded to a report of a communications issue in Friday Harbor. Upon speaking with the caller it was determined to be an attempted fraud from an out-of-state address and no loss was incurred.
