The San Juan County Sheriff’s office responded to the following calls.

March 17

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of a vehicle versus pedestrian collision on Roche Harbor Road. The pedestrian was flown off island with injuries.

• A deputy responded to a report of a traffic offense in Friday Harbor. The vehicle was located and the driver was cited for driving with a suspended license.

• A San Juan deputy issued a driver a citation for driving 35 mph in a posted 25 mph speed zone. The driver was also cited for operating a motor vehicle without insurance. A warning was given for an expired registration.

• A deputy responded to a report of a hit-and-run collision in Friday Harbor. The reporting party located a note on the windshield from the driver who struck their vehicle, insurance information was exchanged, and the incident was documented.

• A deputy on Orcas was dispatched to a non-injury wreck in Eastsound.

• A Lopez deputy was called about recurring traffic problems in a neighborhood. Extra patrols were requested.

• A deputy responded to an ongoing civil dispute between neighbors in Eastsound. A report was forwarded to the prosecutor’s office for legal review.

• A San Juan deputy observed a juvenile smoking tobacco. The juvenile was issued a citation for possession of tobacco under the age of 21 and their parent was notified.

• An Orcas deputy was dispatched to an ongoing civil dispute-noise complaint.

March 18

• A deputy on Orcas was dispatched to check on a suspicious vehicle in Eastsound. The vehicle was located and the driver was discovered to have a felony warrant issued by Oak Harbor Police Department. The suspect was arrested and transported to jail.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of an abandoned vehicle. The vehicle was tagged as abandoned and was impounded after 72 hours.

• A deputy on Orcas was dispatched to a trespassing complaint and filed a report.

• A deputy responded to a report of a theft at a business in Friday Harbor. The business did not wish to pursue charges and the suspect was issued a trespass warning letter.

• A Lopez deputy spoke with a man whose ex-girlfriend’s cat continued to show up at his house. Possible solutions were offered.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of an unemployment fraud scam. The caller stated an unknown person attempted to file for unemployment benefits in Illinois under his name and the claim was denied. No loss was incurred and a report was made. There is no suspect information or workable leads.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a hit-and-run complaint. The offending vehicle was still on-scene. The driver was identified and agreed to pay for the damage. No crime had been committed.

March 19

• A San Juan deputy stopped a known driver not have a license. The driver received citations for not having a valid license with identification, for operating a motor vehicle without insurance, and for defective tires.

• A San Juan deputy stopped the known driver of a vehicle because the owner did not have a driver’s license. Citations were issued for not having a valid license with ID and for operating a motor vehicle without insurance

• A deputy on San Juan stopped the driver of a vehicle for speeding on Roche Harbor Road. The driver was issued a citation for driving 66 mph in a 45 mph zone.

• A Lopez deputy stopped a driver who was speeding near the village. The driver was issued a citation for driving 15 miles per hour over the posted speed limit.

• A Lopez deputy stopped a driver who was speeding on Fisherman Bay Road. The driver was issued a citation for driving 16 miles per hour over the posted speed limit.

March 20

• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for having an expired registration. The driver was issued a citation for failing to renew the registration that had expired more than two months ago.

• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle as the owner did not have a driver’s license. The driver was issued citations for not having a valid license with ID and for not having insurance.

• A San Juan deputy observed a pedestrian approach a vehicle in an intersection and kick the driver’s door, creating an argument. The driver did not wish to pursue charges and the incident was documented.

• A San Juan deputy was dispatched to a welfare check wherein the person was ultimately found to be in violation of a court order.

• Orcas deputies were dispatched to a domestic disturbance in the Eastsound area. Once there, deputies determined no crime had been committed.

• A deputy was dispatched to conduct a welfare check in Friday Harbor. Once contact with the person was made, they were taken to receive assistance.

• A deputy was dispatched to a suspicious circumstance report in Friday Harbor. When the deputy arrived and contacted the person, they stated their front door had been damaged. There are no suspects at this time.

• Deputies on Orcas responded to a driving complaint. The driver was investigated for driving under the influence of intoxicating liquor and/or drugs. There was insufficient probable cause for an arrest, however the driver was released with a warning for having an open container of marijuana.

• Deputies were dispatched to an assault in progress in the Eastsound area, though the parties had separated prior to law enforcement’s arrival. Neither party wanted to provide any information regarding the assault or the circumstances around it.

March 21

• A deputy responded to a report of what sounded like an explosion on the west side of San Juan. After a two-hour search of the area between the Mt. Dallas/Westside Road area and the pullouts at the west side preserve, deputies could find no evidence of an explosion.

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a complaint about an erratic driver. The driver was arrested for driving under the influence; and issued citations for having wheels off the roadway and for driving left of center.

March 22

• A Lopez deputy was called to check on an erratic driver at the ferry terminal. The driver was detained for a welfare check and examined by Emergency Medical Services. It was determined the driver was suffering from a medical condition.

• A Lopez deputy was sent to check on the welfare of a subject after friends were unable to reach him for a couple of days. He was located and asked to contact the requesting party.

• A deputy on San Juan took a report of fraud. Fortunately, no money was lost.

• A Lopez deputy was sent to investigate a 911 hang-up call. After the deputy conducted an area check and contacted several residences, the origin of the cell phone caller could not be located, and no apparent problem was found.

• A deputy on San Juan was dispatched to a report of a possible order violation. The incident did not appear criminal in nature but was documented.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a fraud complaint. An investigation commenced.

• A San Juan deputy investigated a complaint of animal cruelty concerning sheep. The investigation did not reveal any crimes, and a report was filed.

• An Orcas deputy was dispatched to a citizen assist call.

• On Orcas, a deputy was dispatched to a citizen dispute; an investigation found no apparent crime had been committed.

March 23

• A Lopez deputy stopped and ticketed a driver for speeding in the school zone on Center Road.

• A deputy on Orcas, along with Orcas Fire and Rescue and Emergency Medical Services personnel responded to a single-vehicle collision.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a vandalism complaint. The complainant was contacted and an investigation commenced.

• A man from Issaquah reported that he believed his vehicle was struck while parked at the Island Market. An investigation is ongoing.
