James Robert Owens died peacefully at his home in Friday Harbor June 16, 2012.

He was born Dec. 1, 1917 in St. Paul, Minn. He married Dorethe Laverne Tanem, also from Minnestoa on June 15, 1943 in Manitoba, Canada.

Jim joined the Army Aug. 6, 1943. He was part of Company E 1308th Engineer Regiment. While in England, he was injured and was honorably discharged Feb. 15, 1945.

Jim and Dorethe came to Friday Harbor approximately 4 1/2 years ago to spend time with family.

Jim is survived by his wife of 69 years, Dorethe, his sons; Dana Owens and wife Debbie and grandson Brent of Friday Harbor, Greg Owens and his wife Linda from Burbank, Calif., and Todd Owens of Friday Harbor; grandson Chad, great grandchildren Cody and Laney, granddaughter Rebecca, and great grandchild Rachel, all out of state.
