J. Jerry Inskeep Jr. of Montecito, Calif., and Friday Harbor, Wash., passed away Aug. 16, 2009 as a result of liver cancer. He was 78.

J. Jerry Inskeep Jr. of Montecito, Calif., and Friday Harbor, Wash., passed away Aug. 16, 2009 as a result of liver cancer.

He was 78.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Jackie, and his children, John J. Inskeep III (wife Jill), Martha Brandt, and Sarah Inskeep; stepchildren, Michele O’Mery (husband Art), Scott Mayer (wife Lisa); and 11 grandchildren.

Jerry graduated from Yale University in 1953. He served as a first lieutenant in the Navy.

With his business partner, Jim Rippey, Jerry founded the Columbia Management Company, an investment advisory and mutual fund management company, in Portland, Ore.

Jerry was an avid skier and spent two months each year skiing in Sun Valley, Idaho. He also took annual heli-ski trips in the Canadian Rockies.

Jerry enjoyed tennis, bridge, golf, and managing the design and construction of his residences.

Jerry received great pleasure in helping others. He has quietly provided scholarships for students from the Self Enhancement Inc. program in Portland, Clackamas Community College, Yale University, The Scholarship Foundation of Santa Barbara, and students from Friday Harbor.
