The San Juan Islands Special Olympics has added golf to its list of local sports.

Signups for this summer’s golf team is Tuesday, May 13, at Friday Harbor’s Paradise Lanes Bowling Alley. Practice begins in early June, at San Juan Island Golf and Country Club, and runs through the end of July, culminating at the Special Olympics Northwest Regional Tournament.

The local team derives support from Special Olympics Washington, however, the local chapter anticipates raising a modest amount of financial support cover the cost of team shirts, off-island travel and to purchase additional equipment.

Participation in athletics helps individuals build confidence, learn new skills and enjoy friendships.
