The San Juan County Sheriff’s office responded to the following calls.

Nov. 30

• A San Juan deputy was dispatched to a report of threats. A student had been struck by another and said they had a knife, which was later seized by faculty. The school enacted safety protocols regarding the incident and the deputy contacted those involved. This case is still under investigation.

• An Orcas resident was driving, hit a patch of black ice and went off the roadway.

• A Lopez deputy responded to a suspicious call. A concerned Lopez parent reported that their child was being followed and offered a ride home multiple times by an older man that they did not recognize.

• A deputy took a report of vandalism on San Juan that involved a broken glass window at a business on San Juan. There are no leads or suspects at this time.

• A deputy on San Juan took a report of a theft that occurred sometime within the last three months. There are no leads or suspects at this time.

Dec. 1

• In Friday Harbor, the reporting deputy was contacted about a case of trespassing. After speaking with the people involved, the incident appears to be a property line dispute and no crime had been committed.

• A deputy was contacted about threats occurring in the San Juan area. The person said he was receiving threatening messages on his phone from another person, and wanted to know their options.

• A Lopez deputy responded to and took a report about a fraud call. A citizen reported that their niece in California became a victim of an internet scam. The scam was a Facebook message promising to offer federal grant money, claiming to represent “clean energy.”

• A deputy responded to a report of threats toward a bank in Friday Harbor. An investigation revealed there was no probable cause to charge the person with a crime.

• An Orcas deputy responded to a fraud call at an area business. The investigation is ongoing.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a welfare check about a person possibly in crisis. The deputy counseled the person regarding current hardships and mental health difficulties and they were referred to Compass Health for assistance.

Dec. 2

• A wallet was found at the Lopez ferry terminal and returned to the owner later that day.

• A deputy responded to a report of a parking problem in Friday Harbor. The vehicle was unoccupied, and the registered owners were unable to be reached by telephone that day. The owners were contacted two days later and said they would move the vehicle.

Dec. 3

• A Lopez resident was arrested for driving under the influence.

• A deputy on San Juan stopped a driver for speeding who was then issued a citation for speeding 40 mph in a 25 mph zone and for having an expired registration of more than two months.

• On San Juan, a deputy responded to a report of a dog at large. The owner of the dog was contacted and a dog-at-large warning letter was issued.

• A Lopez resident called about a vehicle parked at Agate Beach for several days. The owner was located and said they are trying to get the vehicle repaired and moved.

• A business in Lopez Village called about a vehicle that appeared to have been left in the parking lot.

Dec. 4

• On San Juan, a deputy responded to an animal problem involving a dog that attacked another dog, unprovoked. The victim did not want to pursue criminal action, and the case was documented for a potentially dangerous dog review.

• A deputy issued a citation for speeding to a driver of a vehicle for traveling 52 mph in a 35 mph zone on Orcas Road.

• A deputy on Orcas was dispatched to a citizen assist. The reporting party was concerned about people interfering with her at her work and her home.

• On Orcas, a deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for traveling without headlights after dark. The driver was then arrested for driving under the influence.

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of an unwanted person at a business. The deputy located the individual and served them with a trespass warning letter at the request of the business.

Dec. 5

• A deputy responded to a San Juan business about a trespassing complaint. The suspect, who was previously trespassed from the business, had entered and stolen some items. The suspect was located, arrested and booked into jail for burglary-2nd degree and theft-3rd degree.

• A deputy on Orcas stopped the driver of a vehicle for an expired registration and for speeding. The driver was ultimately cited for expired registration of more than two months, for not having valid proof of insurance, and received verbal warnings for speeding and for failing to transfer the title.

• Another driver on Orcas was stopped for speeding and ultimately cited for not having a valid driver’s license with ID, no valid proof of insurance, and given a verbal warning for speeding.

Dec. 6

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of a theft. Acitizen reported 40 to 50 of their knitted Hedgehogs were taken from the HolidayMarket. There are no prickly leads or suspects at this time.

• A deputy on Orcas was dispatched to a report of a dog at large. The dog was located and returned to the owner who then received a citation for a dog-at-large-3rd offense.
