The San Juan County Sheriff’s office responded to the following calls.

March 24

• A deputy on Orcas was dispatched to a report of graffiti at Orcas High School. An offense report was filed.

• A deputy was dispatched to a report of fraud in Eastsound. The case report was filed.

• A deputy received a report of identity theft from a woman on Orcas and took a report.

• A Lopez deputy responded to a call about a theft; the investigation is ongoing.

• An Orcas deputy was dispatched to a trespass callback and issued a trespass warning letter.

• San Juan deputies responded to a report of a verbal argument. The parties involved were interviewed, and no crime was reported.

March 25

• A deputy on Orcas was dispatched to a disturbance at the ferry terminal. The victim did not want to take any law enforcement action, and an informational report was filed.

• A Lopez deputy assisted a stranded motorist.

• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for traveling 41 mph on Guard Street, which is a 25 mph speed zone. The driver received a citation for speeding.

• On Lopez, a dog was reunited with his missing owner, who was visiting from California.

• An Orcas business reported that graffiti had been painted on the side of its warehouse. It appears this incident is related to two other incident reports of similar graffiti.

• A deputy on Orcas was dispatched to a report of graffiti at Buck Park.

• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for using their cell phone. The driver was issued a citation for using a personal electronic device while driving. Multiple warnings were also given.

• A Lopez driver was stopped for driving with a suspended license, and for not having an ignition interlock device. Charges were forwarded to the court.

• A deputy on Lopez responded to an agency assist call from Mountain Lake Terrance Police Department. The Lopez deputy was able to assist them in their investigation.

March 26

• A deputy on San Juan conducted a welfare check and, upon arriving, observed a violation of a no-contact order. The subject was arrested and booked into jail for the order violation, and on an out-of-county warrant.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of a neighbor pepper spraying the reporting party’s dogs while the dogs were in their own backyard. After investigating, the deputy’s report will be sent to the prosecutor’s office for a charging decision.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a report of found property. The items were recovered and placed in the property room at the Orcas Substation.

• A deputy on San Juan stopped and arrested a driver for driving on a suspended license and for an ignition interlock violation. The driver was also issued a citation for not having insurance.

• An Orcas deputy took a report of a lost Apple watch that was left behind at Buck Park.

• A deputy on Orcas observed a vehicle at the ferry terminal parked in a posted no-parking area. A parking ticket was left behind for the vehicle’s owner.

• A deputy on San Juan arrested a driver for driving on a suspended license. The driver was also issued a citation for not having insurance and for a turn signal violation.

• A deputy responded to a report of a hit-and-run on San Juan. The driver suspected of the hit-and-run was contacted and probable cause was subsequently to the prosecutor’s office. The driver was also issued a citation for not having insurance.

March 27

• San Juan deputies conducted a welfare check and found the person was no danger to themselves or others; the incident was documented.

• A deputy on Orcas filed a report after receiving a complaint of an assault that occurred in 2018.

• On Lopez, a deputy stopped a motorist whom he’d seen fail to heed a stop sign near Lopez Village. Consequently, the motorist was ticketed for his failure to stop.

• A Lopez deputy was called about an erratic driver on Center Road. The driver and the vehicle were located and the driver admitted to being momentarily distracted. Since no signs of impairment were observed, no further action was necessary.

• A Lopez deputy stopped a motorist on Fisherman Bay Road after the deputy saw him ignoring a stop sign in Lopez Village. The driver received a ticket for his failure to respect a stop sign.

• A resident on Lopez called a deputy about a deer believed to be sick and in need of being put down. The deer was located, but it jumped up and ran off into the woods when the deputy approached.

• Deputies on Orcas responded to a complaint of trespassing and served the subject of the complaint a trespass warning letter.

• San Juan deputies offered requested assistance on an EMS call. The injured party had been arguing with their spouse, though no crime appeared to have occurred.

• A San Juan deputy took a report of online harassment against a local video blogger. The investigation is ongoing.

• A deputy was dispatched to a suspicious circumstance in the Friday Harbor area. The person told the deputy about damage to the front door of the residence. No crime appears to have been committed at this time.

March 28

• A San Juan deputy took a report of a neighbor “bear spraying” another neighbor’s dog, which caused secondary chemical exposure to the dog owner’s family.

• A deputy took a report of a trespass incident at a residence. A trespass warning letter was issued, and a report was filed.

• Highly skilled good Samaritans on Lopez removed a boat from the rocks in Fisherman Bay during a severe windstorm and safely secured it to a nearby dock.

• A citizen delivered some found eyeglasses to a deputy on Orcas.

• A deputy responded to an unattended death in Eastsound. An investigation was conducted.

March 29

• A deputy on Orcas conducted a welfare check.

• A report of a theft was filed with a deputy on Orcas.

• San Juan deputies responded to a call of a man lighting paper on fire. The man was contacted and it was determined he was not committing any crimes. He declined any services.

March 30

• A San Juan deputy responded to a property damage call in the 2900 block of Cattle Point Road. A driver reported her windshield was damaged by a San Juan County Public Works mower.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of found property. The property owner was located and the items were returned.

• A Lopez resident contacted a deputy about filing a minor collision report for insurance purposes. The vehicle had minor damage, reportedly from a hit-and-run that occurred in a business parking lot earlier in the month.

• A deputy was dispatched to an ongoing citizen dispute on Friday Harbor Road. The deputy contacted the person who called and filed a report.

• A San Juan deputy stopped a motorist for speeding on Bailer Hill Road. The driver was issued a citation for traveling 57 mph in a 45 mph zone.

March 31

• A Lopez deputy responded to a late-night noise violation at a residence. The sound was turned down and an informational report was completed.
