The Friday Harbor Elementary School Student Council organized a food drive. Students from every grade were to bring in canned and non-perishable foods. The food drive started on Dec. 10 and ended on the nineteenth.
“We as the student council would like to help all people on this island to get food from the wonderful food bank on this island,” said Blaze Borgquist, student representative.
Students from grades kindergarten to sixth grade brought in a grand total of 1,019 food items. Students were motivated by the wonderful prize of an ice cream party for their grade. Fifth grade brought in an amazing total of 247 food items for the win. The fifth grade will be receiving the ice cream soon. Great job fifth grade.
Student council president Isaac Shaw explained the food drive in his own words, “I think that we did a fantastic job and that it was a great success. I think that the people who get food from the food bank are going to be very jubilant and excited that they have more than 1,000 new items of food.”
Most of the food went the Friday Harbor Food Bank. The rest of the food went to the Deacon Food Bank at the Presbyterian Church.
