As of 11:30 a.m., Aug. 7, 1,637 ballots had been counted and 50 ballots were left, according to the San Juan County Elections Office website.
In the primary for the Town of Friday Harbor mayor, Emilio Santiago and Evan Perrollaz are the top two candidates. Town residents will vote for them in the November General Election.
Perrollaz has received 43.43%, or 327 votes.
Santiago has received 31.08%, or 234 votes.
Pamela Hoke has received 12.22%, or 92 votes.
Ray Jackson has received 12.48%, or 94 votes.
Tanja Williamson, who had dropped out early on in the race, received .27%, or four votes.
There were two write-in candidates.
A total of 753 people voted, so far, in the mayoral election, with some ballots still left to count. That number may sound low, however, primaries statistically tend to have lower turn out numbers than general elections.
“I’m excited that the voters agree that the town is ready for a change, and I look forward to continuing hearing the needs of the people this autumn!” Santiago told the Journal.
Perrollaz thanked Friday Harbor residents for their support in a statement.
“Thank you, Friday Harbor! I’m honored, inspired, and deeply grateful to the voters of Friday Harbor for your support in this primary.
“From conversations on sidewalks and over coffee to community gatherings around town, this campaign has been grounded in listening, learning, and connection. I’ve been moved by how deeply people care about this town we’re all fortunate to call home.
“I want to thank Pam Hoke for sharing her passion and ideas, Emilio Santiago for his energy and commitment, and Mayor Ray Jackson for his years of dedicated service to our community.
“As we head towards the general election in November, I look forward to continuing the conversation and working alongside you to shape a stronger future for Friday Harbor.”
Also on the ballot was the Lopez Island Library District Proposition 1, restoring the regular property levy rate and the Lopez Island School District Proposition 1 – Capital Projects Levy. Both passed, receiving over 70% of the votes.
