Domestic violence charges filed in San Juan County

A man was charged in San Juan County with assault and the intent to kill someone he lives with or a family member.

On May 10, Francisco Almonte Altamirano, 36, of Friday Harbor, was charged with domestic violence harassment, to kill someone, in the fourth degree, which is a felony that can carry a maximum sentence of five years.

He was also charged with domestic violence assault in the fourth degree, which is a misdemeanor that can carry a maximum sentence of 364 days.

Almonte Altamirano is being held on $25,000 bail. He pleaded not guilty at his arraignment on May 18, and his next court date is June 15.

A police report states that Almonte Altamirano lives in Friday Harbor, while his driver’s license says he is from Sedro-Woolley, Washington.

Court documents state that a staff member from SAFE San Juans helped the victim get away from Almonte Altamirano. The nonprofit’s mission is to prevent domestic violence and sexual assault through victim services, education and community awareness.
