Comment on Ecology’s plan for Jensen’s Marina

The Washington Department of Ecology is seeking comments on a proposed clean-up at Albert Jensen & Sons Marina. Decades of industrial use at the site — located at 1293 Turn Point Rd. — have contributed to contamination in the soil and marine sediment.

The Port of Friday Harbor recently purchased the site with the intent to redevelop the property and address existing environmental concerns. The Department of Ecology plans to work with the port to design and implement a cleanup plan for the site. A recent sampling of the upland soil and marine sediment at the site identified tributyltin, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs); dioxins/furans; phthalates; organic chemicals; pesticides; polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons; and metals.

Ecology and the port are preparing to enter into an agreed order to provide remedial action and additional soil, groundwater and sediment investigations for cleanup at the site.

Ecology asks that the public provide comments on the plan between Jan. 6 and Feb. 5.
