Carroll Lloyd Weeks of Lopez Island passed away quietly on Sept. 3, 2009 at Life Care Center in Mount Vernon, Wash. He was 79.

He was born on June 9, 1930 on Lopez Island, the son of Lloyd and Wilma (Powers) Weeks.

Carroll was raised on Lopez where he attended grade school and then went on to graduate from Sedro-Woolley High School in 1948. Following high school, he attended Edison Technical School in Seattle, graduating in 1950.

Carroll served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict in 1951-53. Following the service, he worked with his father at the Lopez Service Station for 20 years before becoming owner in 1973 and finally retiring in 2007.

Carroll enjoyed attending the Dixie Land Jazz Festival and traveling to Whistler Mountain in Canada. His lifetime hobby was spending time on and restoring his dad’s boat, the “Sea Bea.” Carroll was a member of the American Legion from 1953–2009.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Noel Weeks.

Carroll is survived by his wife of 55½ years, Donna Weeks; daughter, Denise Weeks of Burlington; son-in-law, Dale Straight of Burlington; sister, Luverne Sorenson of Edmonds, Wash.; sisters-in-law, Darilyn Straight of Seattle, Diana Jones of Long Beach, Calif.; uncle, Fred Sundstrom of Friday Harbor, Wash.; many, many beloved nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews, and cousins; many beloved friends; and his cherished kitty, “Peepers.” He will truly be missed!

A Celebration of Life service will be held from 2-4 p.m., Oct. 17, 2009 at Woodmen Hall on Fisherman Bay Road on Lopez. Memorials may be made to any of the following: the Giving Tree at the Friends of the Woodmen Hall on Lopez, the Senior Center, the Hospice Foundation, the Diabetes Foundation, the Lopez Island Cemetery.
